An Orange a Day!
A study in the April 2000 issue of Thorax found that eating citrus fruit or kiwi might reduce asthma symptoms in children. In this Italian study of over 18,000 children, eating fruit rich in vitamin C five to seven times a week was dramatic in reducing overall wheezing, chronic cough, nighttime cough, and severe wheezing episodes. Eating such fruit even 1 or 2 times a week was significantly protective compared to eating citrus fruit less often. The U.S. has raised its RDA for vitamin C, which may be especially helpful for children with a tendency toward asthma.
